External Fish Diseases
The use of externally visible fish diseases in biological effects monitoring programmes provides an indication of the overall health status at the population level. Disease assessments are now becoming integrated with other types of biological effects measurements as well as analytical data from biota, sediments and water under the recommended OSPAR JAMP suite of techniques used in environmental monitoring.
The BEQUALM fish disease measurement programme primarily focuses on those diseases affecting flatfish in the OSPAR regional sea convention. High quality photographs are distributed to participants to diagnose accordingly.
